Making The Switch To Solar Energy For Savings on Home Energy

Making the switch to solar energy is a smart decision for anyone looking to reduce their monthly energy bills and be kinder to the environment. With solar panels, you can generate your own electricity and power your home or business with clean, renewable energy from the sun. The best way to determine if switching to solar is right for you is by calculating how much money you could save over time.

When it comes to calculating savings, there are three main factors that will impact how much money you can potentially save: the initial cost of installation, estimated usage cost after installation, and local incentives or rebates available in your area. The initial cost of installation includes all materials needed as well as any labor costs associated with setting up the system.

Estimated usage cost estimates how much electricity generated by the panels will be used each month and what rate it will be charged at (which may vary depending on where you live). Finally, many areas offer financial incentives such as tax credits or rebates which can help offset some of the upfront costs associated with installing a solar panel system.

By understanding these three factors and doing research into local incentives or rebates available in your area, you’ll have an accurate picture of what kind of savings switching to solar could.

Let's Break Down The Math Of Going Solar A Little Bit Further

  1. Determine the size of the solar panel system needed: Let’s assume a home uses an average of 30 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per day. To generate this much electricity, the home would need a solar panel system that produces at least 7.5 kW of electricity, assuming the panels receive an average of 4 hours of sunlight per day.

  2. Calculate the cost of the solar panel system: The cost of a solar panel system depends on the size of the system, the quality of the panels, and the cost of installation. Let’s assume the cost of a 7.5 kW solar panel system is $20,000.

  3. Estimate the savings on electricity bills: To estimate the savings, we need to know the local electricity rates. Let’s assume the electricity rate is $0.20 per kWh. If the solar panel system generates all of the home’s electricity needs, the home would save $6 per day on electricity bills, or about $180 per month. Over 20 years, the total savings would be about $43,200.

  4. Calculate the payback period: To calculate the payback period, we divide the cost of the solar panel system by the annual savings on electricity bills. In this case, the payback period would be about 9 years ($20,000 divided by $2,000 per year in savings).

  5. Factor in any tax incentives or rebates: Depending on where you live, you may be eligible for tax incentives or rebates that can reduce the cost of the solar panel system. Factoring in any incentives or rebates can reduce the payback period even further.

Note that these calculations are just an example and the actual savings and payback period may vary depending on a variety of factors, including the location of the home, the quality of the panels, and the local electricity rates.

We understand you may have questions, and we will address them.  All together, For many homeowners, the idea of switching to solar power can seem daunting. After all, it requires a significant investment in terms of both time and money. However, the savings that come with making the switch to solar energy are more than worth it in the long run—not only is there potential for financial gains but also environmental ones as well.

Solar Energy Production and How It Works?

heliogold - Solar energy generation and transmission

If you have purchased solar panels and they were installed on your roof, you might wonder, what exactly is happening on your roof.

Let us explain:

The basic steps in solar energy generation and transmission are:

Collection of solar energy: Solar panels or solar cells are installed in a location that receives maximum sunlight exposure. The panels are made up of photovoltaic cells that convert sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity.

Conversion to Alternating Current (AC): The DC electricity generated by the solar panels is converted into Alternating Current (AC) using an inverter. AC is the type of electricity that is used in homes and businesses.

Transmission: The AC electricity generated by the solar panels is transmitted to the electrical grid through a series of electrical components, such as wires, transformers, and other electrical infrastructure.

Distribution: The electricity generated by the solar panels is then distributed to homes and businesses through the electrical grid, providing a reliable source of clean, renewable energy.

Usage: The electricity generated by the solar panels can be used for a variety of purposes, such as powering lights, appliances, and other electrical devices. Any excess electricity that is not used is fed back into the electrical grid, providing additional benefits to the community.

Solar Energy Production In San Diego

It’s difficult to provide an exact figure for the amount of solar energy produced in San Diego, as this can vary greatly depending on factors such as weather conditions, time of day, and the number of installed solar panels

However, as of 2021, San Diego is known to have a significant amount of solar energy generation capacity, with many homes, businesses, and utility-scale solar farms using photovoltaic panels to generate electricity from the sun. San Diego has a goal of being powered by 100% renewable energy by 2035 and has implemented numerous initiatives to encourage the adoption of solar energy and other forms of clean energy.

Solar Energy Production Illustrated

heliogold - Solar energy generation and transmission

Breaking Down Solar Energy Production - Step By Step

1. As the sun shines on the surface of the panel,it creates an electric field.

2. The electricity generated flows to the edge of the panel, and into a conductive wire.

3. The conductive wire transfers the electricity to the inverter, where it is then transformed from DC electricity to AC, which is used to power homes and buildings.

4. Another wire then transports the AC electricity from the inverter to the electric panel on the property (i.e the breaker box), which distributes the electricity throughout the hom or building as needed.

5. Any electricity not needed upon generation flows through the utility meter and into the utility electrical grid. As the electricity flows through the meter, it causes the meter to run backward, crediting your property for excess generation.

All together, we hope that our simplified explanation of solar energy production offered an easy way to understand the exact process of renewable energy production for powering your home. Heliogold is more than happy to offer a free solar consultation.

Curious About The Cost of Solar Panels

Regardless of what your reasons are for wanting to install solar panels in your home, you should be prepared for the costs. These are based on the amount of electricity you will use each year, and the cost per watt of solar panel power. The more energy you are able to generate with your solar panels, the less you will need to pay for the installation.

Cost per watt of solar panels

Choosing solar panels is an important decision, and there are many different factors that can affect the cost. One of the most common is the size of the system. The larger the system, the lower the price per watt.

A 100 watt solar panel is typically portable and can power small electronic devices. A 300 watt solar panel is a good choice for most residential uses. It is a little more expensive than the 100 watts, but it can run a number of appliances.

The cost of solar panels has been declining for years. The average home can save at least $25,000 over the lifetime of the panels. Using a solar calculator, homeowners can estimate the amount they will save.

The cost of a solar panel may vary due to state, local policies, and the type of panel. Prices can also vary by the brand of panel. If you are buying a premium brand, it is possible that it will not perform as well as a less expensive model.

In order to calculate the most cost-effective solar system, you should consider your current energy bills. This allows you to calculate how much you are currently spending on electricity and to determine how many watts you need to get a better idea of how many panels you will need.

Cost of solar panels for a 1,500-square-foot home

Whether you’re looking to save on your electric bill, or simply looking to reduce your dependence on the grid, solar panels can help you achieve your goal. However, it’s important to understand that the cost of installing these panels is dependent on a number of factors.

Generally, the more watts you need, the more you’ll pay. You’ll also need to consider the amount of space available on your roof. If you’re planning to install an off-grid system, you’ll need to make sure your roof has plenty of room to accommodate the panels.

Depending on your location, you may qualify for additional tax breaks. There are also state-specific incentives. For example, in New Mexico, the PNM Performance-Based Solar Energy Program provides a tax credit of up to $0.40 per watt for up to 25 kW of solar power. This means you could get a refund of up to $6,000.

If you’re looking to purchase your solar panels, you can save hundreds of dollars by shopping around. Look for companies with a good reputation, and request a detailed price quote in writing. You can also search online for reviews and recommendations.

There are three types of solar cells: monocrystalline, polycrystalline, and thin-film. The first two are the most efficient, and cost the least.

Cost of solar panels for a 1,000-square-foot home

Getting a solar panel is an ideal way to save money on your monthly electricity bill. However, before you go out and buy one, you need to understand how much it costs. The cost of solar panels depends on several factors, including wattage and the type of panels you choose.

The average cost of a single panel ranges from $250 to $600. These numbers vary from state to state and from region to region. The type of mounting used also affects the cost.

The most common types of solar panels are monocrystalline and polycrystalline. Monocrystalline panels are the most energy efficient. These panels contain tiny fragments of silicon crystal. They are cheaper, but less efficient than polycrystalline.

Another way to determine the costs of solar panels is to calculate the amount of energy you consume. Your electric bill can give you a good estimate of the watts you use on a daily basis. The size of your house can also impact your costs. For example, if you have a large family or a lot of high-powered appliances, your home may have more energy needs than a small household.

A solar calculator can help you figure out the costs of installing a solar system in your area. The calculator will show you estimates for professionally installed systems in your location.

San Diego County Solar Installation Trends

San Diego County Solar Installation Trends

San Diego County Solar Installation Trends

Whether you are a homeowner or a business owner, you can be assured that San Diego County Solar Installation Trends are advancing rapidly. Not only are new technologies coming out, but the policies surrounding solar have also changed radically.

Solar Installation Trends | Residential solar projects increased 11% in 2020

Whether you live in San Diego County, Los Angeles, or another California city, you can benefit from installing solar panels. You can save money on your electric bill and reduce your carbon footprint. You will also be helping the electrical grid rely less on fossil fuels during heat waves.

According to a recent study by the Solar Energy Industries Association, residential installations in California grew by 30 percent in 2021. Several factors contribute to this increase. One of the biggest is the federal tax credit for solar panels. This is estimated to be $7,500 within the next decade.

The state of California is home to the largest home solar market in the nation. It has 1.5 million homes with rooftop solar panel systems. In addition to the 30% tax credit, there are many incentives for consumers to choose solar.

California’s three major utilities have argued that solar customers don’t pay their fair share for the overall grid costs. They have proposed new charges and changes to their incentive programs. These changes would only affect new customers, and wouldn’t take effect until April of 2023.

Solar panel efficiency has far exceeded 20% efficiency panels

Several major manufacturers have released new high-efficiency solar panels in the past two years. These higher-performance panels are designed to deliver the best efficiency, power output, and durability in a single package.

The latest generation of high-performance panels features multi-busbar half-cut TOPCon cells, which improve the overall efficiency of the panel. These panels also improve the thermodynamic efficiency by dividing the spectrum of the solar energy.

The maximum efficiency of a solar cell is known as thermodynamic efficiency. This refers to the point at which photons interact with the solar cell and can generate thermal energy. Thermodynamic efficiency has been estimated to be around 86 percent.

Another factor that can boost solar panel efficiency is the size of the cell. The larger the cell, the more surface area it has to absorb light. The average cell size is 166mm, but larger ones can increase power production.

Efficiency is measured by the power rating of a panel, divided by the total panel area. This is a good measure of the panel’s performance, but not the only one.

Net metering 2.0 brought solar to those who own their own home

Those who own their home in San Diego County are able to get solar through the state’s Net Metering 2.0 program. This program allows solar customers to get a bill credit for the excess energy they send to the grid. This is a valuable incentive for solar owners to save money on their monthly electric bills.

The program is operated by major investor-owned power utilities in California. These include Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas & Electric, and SDG&E.  These organizations are some of the most influential groups on San Diego Solar Installation Trends.

In addition to the benefits of selling your extra energy back to the grid, you will also receive retail rate bill credits for your solar energy. This is a critical feature of the new California net metering policy.

The new program is designed to take into account the different times of the day that solar panels produce the most electricity. To receive these credits, all customers must have a Time of Use (TOU) rate plan.

The average electric rate in San Diego County as of 2022 is currently $0.38 per kWh. This rate can increase to $0.55 per kWh.

Net metering 3.0 is close to take effect

According to EnergySage.

NEM 3.0 has not yet been approved – the earliest CPUC could finalize their decision is December 15, 2022, and the earliest NEM 3.0 could be live is April 2023.  One way or another, this will effect San Diego Solar Installation Trends, and State Wide Solar Installation Trends as well.

https://news.energysage.com/net-metering-3-0/

Solar policies in San Diego are changing rapidly

During the past two years, solar policies in San Diego County have rapidly changed. One example is the move from net metering 2.0 to time of use (TOU) rates. For homeowners who have installed solar panels, the new rules will mean paying a higher monthly fee and a longer payback period.

The solar industry says that the switch to a more flexible rate structure is vital for integrating more renewable resources into the grid. The difference between a TOU rate and a traditional tiered-rate structure is only a few cents per kilowatt-hour and can entice customers to go solar.

Critics say that the proposal will create the nation’s most expensive fixed charges for residential solar customers. The California Solar & Storage Association is among 600 coalitions that are seeking to stop the CPUC’s proposed plan.

Investor-owned utilities argue that the proposed change would harm lower-income families. They say the plan will unfairly burden solar customers with a ‘hidden tax’ on their electricity bills.

Solar is free once you’ve installed the panels and offers a return on investment (ROI) that is higher than most other investments.

On a more local scale, Heliogold Solar is ready to help homeowners convert their power consumption to an eco-friendly, power-saving, solution that pays off greatly.  We service the greater southern California area and are currently expanding into other addressable markets where home ownership is becoming more expensive day by day.

If you’re considering solar panel installation for your home or business, contact us today and one of our service representatives in your area will make the adequate time to help you learn more about your options.
